A DREAM BETWEEN TWO RIVERS: STORIES OF LIMINALITY
by KL Pereira
(Cutlass Press, September 2017)
A Dream Between Two Rivers: Stories of Liminality is both literary and speculative, both magically real and viscerally strange, in the tradition of writers like Angela Carter, Clarice Lispector, and Jorge Luis Borges. In the collection, Pereira uses elements of fairy tales, folk tales, and myths to highlight the lives of women, children, and immigrants. Meaningful and brave writing underscores the tenacity of those who are the most vulnerable, who live on the edges, between neat and clear definitions of who they are and who they want to be. Pereira explores rebirth in the midst of darkness, free of normative ideas of gender, class, race, and sexuality.
KL Pereira's chapbook, Impossible Wolves, was published by Deathless Press in 2013. Her fiction, poetry, and nonfiction appear in The Drum Literary Magazine, Shimmer Zine, Innsmouth Free Press, Mythic Delirium, Jabberwocky, Bitch Magazine and other publications. She's a member of the New England Horror Writers Association and has taught creative writing in high schools, domestic violence shelters, colleges and universities, and writing institutions throughout New England for over ten years. by Rick Berlin
(Cutlass Press, November 2016)
Paperback Original, 9780692802489
The Paragraphs is a memoir of a life in music, made up of vignettes penned as exercises in songwriting by Boston music icon Rick Berlin.
Created from fragments used to write songs, this memoir recalls a life of music, a relationship with the animal world, and a two-day meth-fueled road trip. Berlin, a queer Boston music legend formerly the front-man of Orchestra Luna, Berlin Airlift, Rick Berlin: The Movie, and The Shelley Winters Project, and currently of The Nickel & Dime Band, is known for his zany lyrics and unflinching wit. Exploring boyhood, family relationships, and the dynamic social workings of Boston through the decades, Rick Berlin’s work is “uncategorizable...part punk, part musical theater, part sentimental sap, part wordplay master. Gold” (Amanda Palmer).
“Rick Berlin’s writing is as raw, luminous, open-hearted, profane, musical, magical as the man himself. Put on your seat belts.” —Beth Harrington (documentary filmmaker, The Winding Stream, member of The Modern Lovers)
“I love reading Berlin’s words. All the pretty young boys and girls got nothing on Rick. He can light up the darkest places.” —Carmelita (Bay State Rock, WAAF)
