Petrichor: An Olfactory Memoir
by Walker Raigh
(Cutlass Press, 2017)

From sun-melted leather to salty upper lip, for entrepreneur, designer, and musician Walker Raigh, every scent recalls a memory. Together these scents tell a story of a life of resistance, rebirth, and romance.

A freshly lit cigarette is an absent grandmother, Calvin Klein spritz is the beginning of androgyny, hot car leather is the day she should have left him on the side of the road: every moment in Walker Raigh's life can be recalled by a scent, and everything that Walker smells triggers a memory. This memoir in vignettes is a catalog of scents and moments--from fine-art training at ten years old, to building two start-ups before scrapping it all for a fresh start with a new partner in a new city. In PETRICHOR, Walker Raigh investigates time and identity, defies the limits of everyday experiences, and uses ordinary sense to illuminate the shape of a life and the possibilities therein.

Walker Raigh is a marketing executive and fine artist living in Boston. A runner, yogi, and lover of the outdoors, Walker requires a daily quota of fresh air to survive the day. She has also dabbled in theater, sung lead in jazz, metal and EDM music groups, run two start-ups, and currently provides mentorship for up-and-coming creatives.
